The Eisner stores had been supplied by Jewel's Champaign, Ill., warehouse, which is scheduled to close Oct. 31 and is for sale, according to a Jewel spokesman. In 1965, Jewel expanded into the convenience store business by opening Kwik Shoppe, a chain that was quickly renamed White Hen Pantry within a few months. The name of the parent company remained "Jewel Tea Company" until 1967 when the stockholders voted to change the name to Jewel Companies, Inc. to better reflect the expansion of the company into different markets.

A 2010 cost-saving measure brought both Jewel and Osco oversight under one store director for each site.
